Access under Winona Bridge at Latsch Island closed Aug. 20-21 for construction
WINONA, Minn. – The road under the Highway 43 Winona Bridge at Latsch Island will be closed from Monday, Aug. 20, to Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 21 for construction work, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The contractor, Ames Construction, will be doing work to regrade Latsch Island road in preparation for final paving. Motorists accessing Latsch Island from Winona will be able to continue using the right turn. Motorists accessing the downriver area of the island from Wisconsin will need to drive into Winona and return on the northbound route. Motorists leaving Latsch Island and wanting to go to Winona will need to turn right and travel toward Wisconsin to turn around and then travel south over the bridge into Winona.
The new Winona Bridge, Bridge No. 85851, carries Highway 43 traffic in both directions across the bridge while the historic Winona Bridge, Bridge No. 5900, is closed and being rehabilitated. The older bridge is expected to open to traffic in the fall of 2019. Contracts for the new bridge and the rehabilitation work total $145.8 million.
