Public open house for Hwy 71 projects to be held in Spicer
WILLMAR, Minn. – MnDOT is hosting an open house on Thursday, April 12 from 4:30-6 pm at Cross Roads Community United Methodist Church (3400 113th Ave.) in Spicer to discuss the upcoming Highway 71 projects.
The Highway 71 North project includes the resurfacing of Highway 71 from the Jct of Highway 23 to just north of Highway 9. It also includes the construction of left turning lanes, right turning lanes and a bypass lane. A pedestrian underpass (DNR trail extension) will also be constructed. Benefits of the project include a smoother road surface and enhanced safety for both motorists and pedestrians. The estimated project cost is $6 million. The Highway 71 North project is scheduled to begin in April, weather permitting, and will require a detour. The project is anticipated to be completed at the end of August. Hardrives Inc. is the contractor on the project.
The Highway 71 project from the Jct of Highway 9 to Highway 55 in Belgrade includes the resurfacing of Highway 71. Benefits of the project include a smoother surface. The estimated project cost is $1.6 million.
The project from the Jct of Highway 9 to Belgrade will start after the completion of the Highway 71 North project and will be completed under traffic. A contractor will be announced shortly.
