Intersection of U.S. 71 and Kandiyohi County Road 27 to close May 29
WILLMAR, Minn. – The intersection of Highway 71 and Kandiyohi County Road 27 will close Tuesday, May 29, 2018. The closure is necessary to construct left turn lanes and is part of the U.S. 71 North project.
The project includes the resurfacing U.S. 71 from the junction of Highway 23 to just north of Highway 9 (less than a half mile) in Kandiyohi County. In addition to the resurfacing project, MnDOT will be constructing left and right turning lanes, a bypass lane and a pedestrian underpass (as part of a DNR trail extension from New London to Sibley State Park) on the same stretch of road.
The detour for the U.S. 71 North project started Monday, May 14, 2018 and will be in effect until the project is complete. The project completion date is Aug. 31, 2018.
Access to Sibley Park will be via the entrance from Highway 9.
Motorists can expect a smoother road surface as well as enhanced safety and mobility when the project is finished. The project is estimated to cost $6 million dollars. Hardrives is the contractor on the project.
Information, including a list of left and right turn locations, can be found at mndot.gov/d8/projects/us71north.
