Highway 61 bridge project completed over Canadian Pacific Railway south of Red Wing
RED WING, Minn. – The Highway 61 bridge project over the Canadian Pacific Railway is completed south of Red Wing, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Motorists started traveling on the new bridge on Oct. 15. MnDOT thanks motorists for their patience and safe driving during this project.
During the past few weeks, crews have been completing the remaining work, including demolition of the old bridge, paving, sign placement and striping. The Highway 61/Golf Links Drive intersection was shifted roughly 500 feet to the northwest to allow for a new left turn lane to be constructed. A new left turn lane was constructed at the Wylie Wilson Trucking entrance. A new continuous left turn lane was constructed to provide a turn lane for the USG and Cemstone entrances.
The MnDOT contractor will return to the site next spring or early summer to place the final layer of pavement and permanent striping.
