Overnight status of state highways in South Central Minnesota
MANKATO, Minn. – (2:45 p.m.) The No Travel Advisory for all state highways and Interstate 90 in South Central Minnesota will remain in effect overnight, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Road conditions will be reevaluated in the morning and posted on www.511mn.org .
The no travel advisory includes state highways and I-90 in the following counties: Blue Earth, Brown, Cottonwood, Faribault, Jackson, Le Sueur, Martin, Nicollet, Nobles, Rock, Sibley, Waseca, and Watonwan.
Strong winds and blowing snow have created blizzard conditions and hazardous travel. Motorists are advised not to travel in these areas until conditions improve.
MnDOT snowplows in South Central Minnesota will operate until dark and will return early Monday morning to resume operations and clear highways.
No travel advised means that the roadway has deteriorated and/or visibility has been reduced to the point that it is very dangerous to travel; there are reports of intermittent whiteout conditions; and, some weather conditions can be severe enough that road treatments, such as salt or sand, are not effective.
Although no road closures are currently planned, MnDOT offices are prepared for interstate and highway closures if necessary.
