I-35 southbound reopens at Albert Lea for traffic to travel into Iowa

ALBERT LEA, Minn. (1 p.m.) – Southbound Interstate 35 in Minnesota at Albert Lea has reopened to traffic traveling into Iowa now that the Iowa Department of Transportation reopened the highway, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Northbound traffic has remained open.

Southbound I-35 traffic into Iowa was closed on Sunday after the Iowa DOT closed traffic on I-35 because of blowing snow and dangerous winter driving conditions.

Additionally, MnDOT lifted its no travel advisory this morning on most state highways in southeast Minnesota.

Stay updated on changing winter driving conditions in southeast Minnesota by signing up for MnDOT winter driving updates via text message or email. Go to the southeast MnDOT website and look for the Winter driving updates link to sign up.

MnDOT reminds motorists during winter driving to remember:

  • Don’t drive distracted.
  • Stay alert for snowplows, which turn or exit frequently and may travel over centerlines or partially in traffic to further improve road conditions.
  • Stay back at least 10 car lengths behind the plow. Don’t drive into a snow cloud.
  • Slow down to a safe speed for current conditions.
  • Turn on your headlights and wear your seat belt.
  • Turn off the cruise control.
  • Be patient and remember snowplows are working to improve road conditions for your trip.
