No travel advisory lifted at 10 a.m. in South Central Minnesota
Motorists may encounter reduced visibility and icy roads
MANKATO, Minn. – (9:15 a.m.) The Minnesota Department of Transportation will lift the no travel advisory at 10 a.m. today, Dec. 29, from state highways and Interstate 90 in South Central Minnesota. Area highways were under a no travel advisory due to blowing snow and low visibility.
Motorists should use extreme caution when traveling as many roads remain snow covered and visibility reduced, particularly in open areas without windbreaks. Motorists are advised to reduce speed and drive according to conditions.
MnDOT snowplow operators will do their part to make highways safe and motorists should remember to:
- Don’t drive distracted.
- Slow down to a safe speed for current conditions.
- Stay alert for snowplows, which travel slower, turn often or exit frequently. Snowplows may travel over centerlines or partially into traffic to clear roads and improve conditions.
- Stay back at least 10 car lengths behind the plow. Don’t drive into a snow cloud.
- Turn headlights on.
- Turn off cruise control.
- Wear your seat belt.
- Be patient and remember snowplows are working to improve road conditions for your trip.
