No travel advisory lifted for state highways in Southwest Minnesota
WILLMAR, Minn. – (9:30 a.m.) The Minnesota Department of Transportation has lifted the no travel advisory for state highways in Southwest Minnesota. Counties that were impacted by the no travel advisory include Chippewa, Kandiyohi, Lac qui Parle, Lincoln, Lyon, McLeod, Meeker, Murray, Redwood, Renville, Pipestone, and Yellow Medicine. Area highways were under a no travel advisory due to blowing snow and low visibility.
Motorists should drive according to conditions when traveling as many roads remain snow or ice covered with reduced visibility, particularly in open areas without windbreaks.
MnDOT snowplow operators will do their part to treat and clear roadways. Motorists are asked to always check www.511mn.org before traveling to ensure that their route is not closed or under a travel advisory, and remember to:
- Stay alert for snowplows, which turn or exit frequently and often with little warning
- Stay back at least 10 car lengths behind the plow; don’t drive into a snow cloud
- Slow down to a safe speed for current conditions
- Turn on your headlights and wear your seatbelt
- Turn off the cruise control
- Be patient and remember snowplows are working to improve road conditions for your trip
- Don’t drive distracted
