Nighttime closures of I-94 in Moorhead scheduled next week for communication upgrades project
DETROIT LAKES, Minn.—Starting Monday, Oct. 6, weather permitting, motorists will encounter overnight closures of Interstate 94 in Moorhead between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., as contractor crews complete the installation of the new overhead message boards, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The closures will occur one direction at a time, between 20th Street and 34th Street, starting on the eastbound side on Oct. 6. Traffic will be detoured to 20th Street South, 40th Avenue South and 34th Street South. It is anticipated to take approximately one night in each direction, with the possibility of two nights in each direction, depending on weather conditions or any unforeseen occurrences.
What motorists can expect:
- Monday, Oct. 6: Eastbound I-94 closed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
- Tuesday, Oct. 7: If eastbound work is completed, westbound I-94 will close between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
- Wednesday, Oct. 8 and 9: Potential closures on the westbound side between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
Because of its location within the work area on eastbound I-94, the Moorhead Travel Information Center will close to all travelers on Oct. 6 and possibly again on Oct. 7. The rest area will reopen when the roadway reopens.
All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather dependent and subject to change at any time. MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution and slow down in work zones where workers are present.
