History and significance

The Arches Bridge is a two-span, rock-faced, coursed-ashlar, limestone, semicircular arch bridge. The bridge was built in 1882 by the Winona and St. Peter Railroad. It spans County Road 12 and Garvin Brook in Farmers Community Park east of Lewiston in Winona County, Minnesota. The bridge carries a single track of the Dakota, Minnesota, and Eastern Railroad. The Arches Bridge is significant as an important element in the development of Winona County's transportation system. It is also significant as a unique example of nineteenth-century bridge engineering utilizing a semicircular masonry arch railroad overpass.
