Brainerd invited to Washington Street project update meeting March 25
BAXTER, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Transportation invites the Brainerd community to learn about future roadwork and impact plans for the upcoming 2026–2027 Washington Street/Highway 210 Brainerd project between Pine Shores Road and Baxter Drive, Crow Wing County, on Tuesday, March 25.
Guests may attend one of two duplicate open house-style meetings:
- Noon–2 p.m.

The MnDOT project team will have informational boards and tentative detour plans to view and will answer questions about local impacts and overall work plans for the two-year roadwork project.
The estimated $51.3 million project will reconstruct and improve both directions of Highway 210 (Washington Street) through Brainerd. Local access to businesses and residences will be open; however, expect changes when in the work zone. Through traffic will encounter detours to complete work beneath the road.

Summary of work
- Reconstruct (bridge, downtown, mall/railyard segments) or resurface (west and east segments) the road
- Reconstruct curbs, gutters, raised medians and storm sewers
- Update signal systems
- Remove signal systems at Fourth Avenue NE and Crow Wing County Road 3 (Mill Avenue)
- Realign and improve access on Highway 210 at Highway 25 and County Road 3 with two roundabouts
- Upgrade city utilities beneath the road, includes watermain
- Upgrade pedestrian sidewalks and approaches and reconstruct/connect the Cuyuna Lakes Trail
- Update the Mississippi River bridge
Tentative schedule
- 2026 work area: Highway 210 east limits at Pine Shores Road to Kingwood Street area, includes roundabouts (east, mall/railyard segments)
- 2027 work area: Highway 210 west limits at Baxter Drive to about Kingwood Street area, includes the Mississippi River bridge (west, bridge, downtown segments)
- 2028 work area: Wrap up any remaining work
