MnDOT will reconstruct and improve motorist and pedestrian safety on Hwy 71 (Main St. S) in Sauk Centre in 2028 and 2029. The project includes new roundabouts and connections, city utilities and a pedestrian/bike path.
Reconstruct and update Hwy 71 (Main St. S) from Stearns Co. Rd. 186 (12th St. S) and Birch St. N, includes:
City underground utilities (water and sanitary sewer) and street lighting
Curb/gutter and underground storm sewer
Replace the signalized intersection at Hwy 71 (Main St. S) and Sinclair Lewis Ave. with a new single-lane mini roundabout
Improve access and traffic flow along Hwy 71 between Lake St. N and Birch St. N with a new single-lane roundabout that connects to/from Fifth St. N (hospital)
Extend and add a new 10-ft pedestrian/bike path along the west side of Hwy 71 to Co. Rd. 186 (12th St. S)
Update and extend the sidewalk on the east side of Hwy 71 to Co. Rd. 186 (12th St. S)
Replace the enhanced crosswalk signal systems near Fourth St. S and First St. N
Resurface and make repairs to the Sauk River bridge, includes a pedestrian/bike path
Resurface Hwy 71 between I-94 and Co. Rd. 186 (12th St. S)
